Sync Licensing Readiness Checklist Before You Pitch
Supervisors and libraries move fast when a brief lands. If your metadata, files or rights are messy, you are not ready to pitch, no matter how good the song is. Use this checklist before you send anything.
Rights and paperwork
- [ ] You know who owns the master and the publishing, with splits written down.
- [ ] Featured artists, samples and interpolations are cleared or removed.
- [ ] You can respond to a licence request without waiting weeks for a missing signature.
Files and versions
- [ ] High-quality stereo master available quickly.
- [ ] Instrumental version ready, or a plan to deliver one fast.
- [ ] Clean edits if the full vocal version has language that would block certain briefs.
- [ ] Accurate timing notes for obvious cue points where helpful.
Metadata and story
- [ ] Song mood, tempo feel and comparable references described in plain language.
- [ ] Lyrics available.
- [ ] One-paragraph artist context that is factual.
- [ ] Contact person who answers email promptly.
Pitching behaviour
- [ ] Briefs are read fully before you send.
- [ ] You only submit songs that fit.
- [ ] Follow-ups are polite and rare.
- [ ] "No" is accepted without argument.
