Reading a Music Case Study: What to Look For
Case studies are one of the best ways to judge a promotion or marketing team, but they are easy to dress up. Here is how to read one critically.
Check the starting point
A good case study says where the artist began: audience size, previous releases, goals. Results only mean something compared with the starting line.
Look at the actions
What did the team actually do? Pitching, ads, creators, PR, content? Vague phrases like "leveraged our network" say little.
Look at the right results
| Weaker signals | Stronger signals |
|---|---|
| Impressions | Saves and follows |
| Total views | Returning listeners |
| "Viral" | Sustained growth over weeks |
Ask about the timeline
How long did the campaign run, and what happened after it ended?
Ask questions
If something is unclear, ask the team directly. A confident team will explain its work.
